If you’re waiting for the ideal conditions to capture high quality branded content, nothing can top a bright summer day.

In this article we’re shining some light on:

☀️ Why summer is the best time to capture and refresh your content and

☀️ The different kinds of summer content you’ll want to capture

Winter will be here before you know it, don’t waste these perfect days before they’re gone. Let’s get after it.

Summer Content vs. Winter Content

Maybe this goes without saying, but the content you film in the summer is naturally going to be much brighter, more colorful, and lighthearted by nature. There’s nothing wrong with winter content, but the tones and hues tend to be grayer and darker, and the footage just feels a bit heavier.

If you’re filming outdoor content, any talent will need to wear heavy layers of clothing, making capturing sound through a mic more challenging. Not to mention the extra layers add to the heaviness of the shots.

Your time in the winter becomes increasingly valuable as there are only so many hours of natural daylight. Meaning you can accomplish much less than you would be able to with the extra time that summer provides.

As we said, capturing content during the fall and winter months is not bad; sometimes, it’s even preferable. However, certain kinds of content make more sense to collect during the summer.

Team Photos & Headshots

Depending on the size of your company or where you plan on shooting your headshots, summer might be the best time for you to refresh your team pictures. The last thing you want to deal with is a race against the clock as you lose more and more sunlight by the minute. Plus, people tend to spend more time outside in the summer, making for sunnier dispositions, glowing skin, and better pictures.

As long as you don’t choose a day that’s overly hot or humid, you’ll be sure to capture some high-quality photos that will add some brightness and warmth to your company website

Brand Overviews

Most brand overview videos tend to be uplifting, happy, and inviting. And while capturing that kind of content in the colder months is possible, the summer makes for an ideal backdrop to capture the sunny content you’re probably envisioning.

The winter tends to only have a handful of bright sunny days. And all other days, production may be halted due to snow, rain, or just a lack of sunshine.

A brand overview video is a piece of evergreen content you will most likely use for years to come. It’s an investment. So why not make the most of your investment by securing the best footage possible?

Neighborhood Content

Probably obvious, but summer is just naturally the best time to capture any outdoor content. Public spaces tend to come to life in the summer months, with more people and families engaging with the areas you’re hoping to capture.

Of course, if you live in an area that experiences a great deal of snow or area-specific weather, it’s important to capture that kind of content to ensure a realistic depiction. But for the most part, if you’re hoping to convey an inviting, lively, and mood-boosting atmosphere, summer content is your best bet.

Travel Content

This is the time of year when people are really focusing on traveling, getting out of their comfort zones, and prioritizing experiences. We’re not saying you need to suddenly become a travel blogger.

But if you can create relevant and value-driven content that highlights new places, offers brand-relevant travel tips, or showcases unique experiences, your audience will appreciate it. Plus, it is just really fun content to shoot, show off your brand personality, and see how your audience interacts with it.

Property Tours

When you walk into a new space, you want it to feel warm and inviting. Not cold or dark. Walking into a bright sunny room is an instant mood booster and significantly impacts how you feel in the space. And the same goes for digital tours

If a property tour is dark, cold, and dreary, it will absolutely have a negative impact on how your audience views the space, even if it’s subconscious. Filming during the summer months naturally provides a warmer, more colorful atmosphere and will give off a happier look, vibe, and feel. So if you’re hoping to show a property in its best light, filming during the summer will be the best way to bring that vision to life.
